Readers of Deutshes Munzen Magazin highly appreciated a coin minted at the Saint-Petersburg Mint
The “Figure Skating” coin belongs to the “Sports of the First Olympic Winter Games” series. The craftsman of the Saint-Petersburg Mint struck it of pure gold in “proof” quality. The face value of the “Figure Skating” coin, just like all the 8 coins of the “Sports of the First Olympic Winter Games” series, is 50 roubles.
Just like on all coins of the “Sochi 2014” programme, the Coat of Arms of Russia is depicted on the obverse side of the “Figure Skating” coin for the first time after 1917. Coins dedicated to the 22nd Olympic Winter Games have been issued in series since 2011. But the year of minting on them is 2014, the year of the Olympic Games in Sochi.
The coin design was developed by the artists of the Design Center of Goznak. The authors of the coin reverse design were A. Baklanov and A. Brynza. F. Andronov modeled the reverse side. The author of the obverse of all the coins of the “Sochi 2014” programme was E. Kramskaya, it was modeled by A. Dolgopolova.
