Awards for the winners of the World Universiade 2013 have been manufactured31.05.2013
The work upon this important order was started in autumn 2012. Even the masters of the coin and order production of Goznak did not find it easy to develop the unique technologies necessary for creating the unique medals.
The medal construction invented by the award design authors is unique. Every medal (its diameter is 90 mm) consists of two parts – the outer ring and the intersection of parallels and meridians rotating on pins inside the outer circle made in the shape of a sphere oblate on both the inner and the outer sides of the sphere. The part of the medal with the Universiade symbolics and name is fixed to this symbolic image of the globe.
The medal’s outer circle and the onlay to its inner part were minted by the masters of the coin and medal production. The inner part of the medal – the circle symbolizing the globe – was made by the jewelers of the Saint-Petersburg Mint. Afterwards every medal was assembled and polished manually at the jewelry production department of the Mint.
The combination of stamping and casting required a lot of time and efforts of the highest-skilled masters. After the development of necessary technologies the awards production was started in December 2012. The result of more than five months of strenuous work is sportive awards of the
the jewel-like quality.
