Stamps in honor of the Russian and Laos friendship01.12.2015
The issue of postage stamps is dedicated to the 55th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Russia and Laos.
The diplomatic relations between the USSR and the Kingdom of Laos were established on October 7, 1960. Later on, in 1994, the Agreement of foundations of amicable relations between the countries was signed. At the moment there is a tendency to all-round expansion of the Russian and Laotian relations – in the field of culture and education; the commercial and economic and scientific and technical co-operation is developing.
The postage stamps depict some of the best-known and recognizable architectural monuments of the two countries.
Church of the Intersession on the Nerl is one of the masterpieces of the world architecture, it was built in 1165 by Holy Duke Andrey Bogolyubskiy. It is located close to the village of Bogolyubovo in the Vladimir Region at the place of confluence of rivers Nerl and Klyazma on a flood meadow. It is a modest one-dome and four-pillar church decorated with carving. Thanks to the delicacy of proportions and the general harmony of the church and the natural landscape, it is considered one of the most beautiful Russian churches. In 1992, it was included into the World Heritage List of UNESCO as a part of “the white-stone monuments of Vladimir and Suzdal”. This year, the church celebrated its 850th anniversary.
Pha That Luang Temple is a Buddhist religious building, an outstanding architectural monument and the national symbol of Laos. It is located not far from Vientiane, the capital of the country. Its official construction was started in 1566, when under the order of King Setthathirath, the Spire of Universe was erected. The temple is a graded construction. The monumental Great Stupa is preserved in a broad terrace, which is the basis of the whole temple. The terrace is surrounded with a high wall with cells for offerings and prayers. The residence of the Laotian Buddhistic Patriarch is located at the temple today.
A. Povarikhin, an artist, was the author of the stamp design. The stamps have the face value of 21 roubles.
The stamp size is 37 x 37 mm, the size of the stamp sheet is 152 x 152 mm.
the stamps were issued in the shape of a sheet with formed margins of 8 stamps (3 x 3) and a coupon.
The stamps were issued in the number of 180 thousand of each kind (45 thousand stamp sheets).
Both the stamps were printed on self-adhesive paper using multi-ink offset.
