When the appearance is delusive 18.09.2015
The Perm Printing Factory – Branch of Goznak has printed two new postage stamps on self-adhesive basis. The stamps with the face values of 17 and 35 roubles (corresponding to the tariffs for ordinary and registered mail with the weight of up to 20 grams) will appear at all the branches of the Russian Post.
The emblem of the Post of Russia is depicted on the stamp with the face value of 17 roubles. On the 35-rouble stamp, there is the emblem of the Russian Geographic Society. According to the information of the Russian Post, both the stamps are not only “tariff”, but also artistic, but their number exceeds the average number of artistic stamps in dozens of times. Besides, the stamps are protected against counterfeiting.
The Perm Printing Factory usually prints stamps under orders of the Publishing and Trading Centre "Marka" with triade inks. But these two stamps were printed with pantones. They are special mixed inks with various security features added during their manufacture at the factory. Thus, for example, the stamps we are writing about have been printed with inks having various properties in the IR range (visible or invisible via the IR magnifying glass).
The stamps with the emblem of the Russian Geographic Society have been offset-printed on self-adhesive paper with the application of light-grey and dark blue colours. The stamp size is 26.5 x 20 mm. The perforation is by punching 14 ½ : 15. The size of the stamp sheet is 195 x 304.8 mm. The number is 54 (6 x 9) stamps on the sheet. The number of both the stamps and the stamp sheets is 12 582 000 pieces of each kind.

The author of the stamp design is A. Povarikhin, an artist.
According to Dmitry Bolotov, Head Technologist of the Perm Printing Factory, the Factory has co-operated with the Publishing and Trading Centre "Marka" fruitfully for a long time, executing the orders on time, at a high artistic and technological level. The work at each stage of the joint projects is carried out according to the worked-through scheme. For example, at the pre-printing stage, there are technical regulations of preparing the original files using the colour profile of the printing machine the parameters of which are transferred to the customers.
The co-ordination is conducted on-line. And if there are any reasonable doubts, the colour proofing may be sent to the Publishing and Trading Centre "Marka" for additional approval to reach the perfect result in the end.
It was not easy to manufacture these plain-looking stamps. The stamp background colours (light-beige and light-grey) are very difficult to reproduce in printing. It is very difficult to make such colour shades fit the sketch and print them. Here one can’t do without high skills of all the specialists taking part in the production process. Oxana Shmelkova, an artist, Svetlana Goluzina and Natalia Dendriaeva, colorists, contributed a lot to the fact that these plain complicated stamps were printed without special problems. And, of course, the printing team headed by Pavel Shaklein made their contribution.
The number of stamps – over 20 and 12 million – can’t be called small even for our production site. The Perm Printing Factory often produces postage stamps on self-adhesive basis under the order of the Publishing and Trading Centre "Marka". But the numbers of each order are usually smaller. Nevertheless, we have coped with the large numbers as usually – with Goznak’s quality and on time.
If the stamps are repeated in the future, it will be easier to print them – the ink compositions have been worked through, the printing machine settings have been recorded, the samples have been prepared. It is always easier to print repeated lots of the product than the first issue. It is no problem for the high-skilled printers of Goznak to repeat the already worked-through and checked parameters.
