Joint Stock Company “Goznak” has been manufacturing postage stamps for more than 150 years. The Company (then called the Expedition of Storing State Papers) designed and manufactured the first Russian postage stamp in 1857. Until the beginning of the 20th century the Expedition of Storing State Papers manufactured a great number of Zemstvo (elective district council in pre-revolutionary Russia) stamps, then commemorative postage stamps for both Russia and other countries. Since then the Company’s specialists have gained extensive experience in manufacturing high-quality postage stamps, postage cards and franked envelopes. In the 20th century the stamps production facility of the Moscow Printing Factory of Goznak manufactured postage miniatures for Hungary, Vietnam, Madagascar, Ethiopia, Haiti, Holland, China and many other states. Among other foreign orders, Goznak masters are currently producing postage stamps for the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire.
