On July 30, 2018, the Bank of Russia put into circulation commemorative coins struck at the Saint Petersburg Mint Branch of Goznak dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Joint Stock Company Goznak the direct and only successor of the Expedition of Storing State Papers that was how Goznak was called until 1919.

On the 3-rouble silver coin of the 200 years since the day of foundation of the Expedition of Storing State Papers series, there is a gilded image of the modern emblem of celebration of the 200th anniversary of Goznak against the background of the logo of the Expedition of 1900 created by Richard Zarrin, one of the most famous artists employed at the Expedition, who made a great contribution into the history of the enterprise at the beginning of the 20th century.

To the left of the superimposed logos, a microtext consisting of the repeated first name of Goznak û (THE EXPEDITION OF STORING STATE PAPERS) is applied with the help of laser matting.

The coin is made in proof quality in the number of 10,000 pieces.

On the 25-rouble silver coin of the 200 years since the day of foundation of the Expedition of Storing State Papers series, there is a relief image of the façade of the historical building of the Expedition from the Fontanka River Embankment.

Above it, a microtext consisting of the repeated first name of Goznak û (THE EXPEDITION OF STORING STATE PAPERS) and an image of an assignation are applied with the help of laser matting.

The coin is made in proof quality. The coin diameter is 60 mm, the weight of the precious metal in purity is 155.5 g. the coins is struck of sterling silver in the number of 1000 pieces.

Head Artist of the Design Center of Goznak Alexander Baklanov said that the author of the coin sketches, an artist of the Design Center of Goznak Anton Schablykin had offered a lot of variants, and the best ones with a high degree of artistic and historical generalization were chosen.

On the 25-rouble coin, the front gate of Goznaks cradle, the first building of the Expedition of Storing State Papers and now the Saint Petersburg Paper Mill of Goznak, the façade of the mill and a stylized assignation as if originating from the past.

The superimposed logos of Goznak of different centuries on the 3-rouble coin symbolize continuity of Goznaks traditions and steady progressive development of the company.

The application of laser technologies in the coin production emphasize the innovative trend of the enterprises of Goznak, explained Alexander Baklanov.

Head of the Engineering and Manufacturing Department of the Saint Petersburg Mint Sergey Evstratov said that during the preparation to the coin striking the specialists of the enterprise offered unique unusual technologies, including natural stone inserts with further relief engraving on it. All the more so because there is experience of application of such a technology.

However, the modern laconic classics was chosen in the end. Partial relief gilding and laser matting were applied in the manufacture of the coins in proof quality.

Laser matting is becoming almost a classic technology now; however, the Bank of Russia has started issuing coins with gilding only recently. Before that, the coins were made with gold inserts which limited the technical and artistic arsenal during the coin manufacture considerably.

On the contrary, relief gilding does not limit the application of other technologies; it adds solemnity and expressiveness to the coin. , , .

A coin creation is a great and well-coordinated work of the whole team of the mint. However, during the production of commemorative coins in honour of the 200th anniversary of Goznak, enamelers and electroplaters bore special responsibility. The faultless final appearance of the commemorative coins depended on their craftsmanship and work quality. The enamelers covered every coin with protective varnish forming the area of further gilding, and electroplaters provided gilding.

"As a result, we have received commemorative coins we can be proud of in all respects both the craftsmanship and quality of their production and our belonging to the jubilee of Goznak a unique company with the bicentenary history we have the honour to work at, Sergey Evstratov concluded.
